Myanmar Appeal

ACC World Relief aims to raise $50,000 for Myanmar Appeal

“Not since the Boxing Day Tsunami of 2004 has the Peninsula Asia region seen such tragedy.  In one town alone over 10,000 people have been killed by this natural disaster.  As followers the Lord Christ we cannot ignore the cries of our brothers and sisters in Myanmar. It is our calling to reach out and show them the love of our Father, so please donate today to help us provide much needed aid for the thousands of people affected by this disaster".

 - Ps. Jack Hanes, President of ACC World Relief

“The immediate need is to provide emergency aid to those who have survived this terrible natural disaster. Myanmar is considered one of the poorest countries in South East Asia and the impact of Cyclone Nargis will have totally destroyed what little the Burmese people have. The Australian Christian Churches can make a significant difference if we rally together to help our neighbours as they attempt to rebuild their lives.”

 - Ps. Alun Davies, Peninsula Asia Regional Director

Myanmar Appeal Information

This appeal has been launched by ACC World Relief to provide short-term emergency relief assistance to those affected by the Cyclone Nargis, which hit the coast of Myanmar on the 2nd of May this year.

Estimates of the death toll from this natural disaster are the highest in Asia since the 2004 Tsunami. Recent figures estimate up to 100,000 feared dead, and many thousands more affected by the disaster. It is estimated that 24 million people populated the Irrawaddy Delta Region where the cyclone hit and the other 4 areas which have been officially declared a disaster zone.

There is a vast need for basic relief food, shelter and water to be provided to communities within cyclone affected districts in Myanmar. Funds raised from this appeal go towards helping affected families and communities by meeting basic needs such as, but not limited to; temporary shelter, food, utensils and basic necessities.

Any surplus funds raised will be designated to another needy ACCWR Relief or Community Development Program which will alleviate poverty and suffering.

China Earthquake Appeal

ACC World Relief Launches China Earthquake Appeal

In light of the devastating earthquake measuring 7.9 on Monday the 12th of May in China’s Sichuan province, Australian Christian Churches World Relief (ACCWR) is asking Australians to make urgent donations to its China relief appeal.  Funds will be disbursed through an agency already at work in the disaster affected areas to help affected families and communities by meeting basic needs such as, but not limited to temporary shelter, food, utensils and basic necessities.

ACCWR Regional Director for Northern Asia, Pastor Bruce Robertson said the urgent need now is to prevent further loss of life through provision of food, medical supplies and shelter.

The official death toll has now reached over 62,500. An estimated 5 million people have lost their homes and hundreds of thousands of people have been injured. (The Age, UN News Service)

Pastor Robertson has called Australian Christians to firstly pray but also to give generously to those who are suffering.  “We are grateful for those in Australia who have already offered financial assistance, but there is still a lot more to be done”

Pastor Jack Hanes, President of ACC World Relief said, "Our brothers and sisters in the Sichuan province are suffering immensely from the devastating effects of the recent earthquake.  Let's band together again and support them both in prayer and financial assistance- please donate today!"

Kenya Relief Appeal

This appeal has been launched by ACC World Missions in partnership with the African Executive, to assist families and communities that have been displaced as a result of the ethnic violence which has been occurring within Kenya. The conflict was triggered by a disputed presidential election in December of 2007, and since this time, the nation has experienced much violence, instability, and civil unrest along ethnic divides.

There is a great need to raise funds for these communities, as the violence has resulted in large numbers of refugees, internally displaced persons and disruption to livelihoods and agriculture. The UN estimates that half a million Kenyans urgently need assistance. According to UN statistics, over 1000 people have lost their lives in the violence; there are 347,000 internally displaced persons, and 12,000 refugees who have fled to Uganda.

Funds raised from this appeal will go towards helping these families and communities by meeting basic needs such as, but not limited to; temporary shelter, food, utensils and basic necessities.

These funds will be channelled to Kenya using recognised field contacts known by the African Executive Team, headed up by Pastor Melinda Dwight.

To give a donation to this appeal, please visit our website at www.wr.acc.org.au or deposit funds directly to AOG World Relief Inc. account with ANZ Mitcham, BSB 013 384 Account 3028 30114 Kenya Appeal or send cheques to AOG World Relief Inc. PO Box 254 Mitcham Vic 3132. Please note that donations for this appeal do not attract tax deductibility. If you have any questions please call our office on 03 98724566.

Thanks for partnering with ACC World Relief by assisting the nation of Kenya during this turbulent and challenging time.

Australian Drought Relief

The current drought is the worst on record, and its impact is being strongly felt by rural communities.  After seven years of drought many farmers have received little or no income; exhausted their savings and are falling further into debt because they cannot maintain mortgage repayments.

The impact of the drought is not just limited to primary producers, local businesses and churches are also struggling to survive.

The devastation caused by the drought has placed enormous pressure on rural families and communities, increasing the rate of family breakdown, alcohol abuse, depression and suicides.

This is a time to band together and reach out to our communities and churches in need

With endorsement from ACC national leadership ACC World Relief is coordinating a four-pronged approach to help those affected by the drought, which includes: raising funds, goods in kind, suicide prevention and trauma care, and legal/financial advice by referral through Australian Christian Services.

Donations may be made through this website or by phoning 1800 555 301 Toll Free or (03) 9872 4566 within Victoria.

Testimony

"To experience wonderful encouragement following a time of hardship and disappointment is an amazing ministry of refreshment and hope. Just prior to Christmas last year two compassionate Christian ministries in Sydney, “Christian City Church- Oxford Falls” and “Sydney Care - Chatswood”, provided literally hundreds of “Hampers” to needy rural families that are suffering the effects of the worst drought in our history. To be given the honour along with other churches to distribute these gifts often just reduced us to tears. Thank you Sydney Christians, for such tangible love to predominately farming families out west even though you yourselves are hurting through serious water restrictions. Please receive our love and gratitude on behalf of all the families blessed through your generosity."
