ACC World Relief projects are required to meet all of the following general guidelines:
address poverty
– the poor are those who suffer a level of deprivation and are unable to meet minimum standards of well-being. ACCWR is committed to reducing poverty and empowering the poorest of the poor, underprivileged and exploited people and communities.
sustainable development
– seeks to deliver sustainable and participatory development which has long term benefits and helps the community to become self-sufficient. This requires that buildings, equipment and systems must be compatible with the project environment and able to be sustained without ongoing external finance.
Development is defined by AusAID as being:
”a comprehensive economic, social, cultural and political process which aims at the constant improvement of the well-being of the entire population and of all individuals on the basis of their active, free and meaningful participation in development and in the fair distribution of the benefits that result from this process.”
preserve human dignity
– respect the right of people for self-determination, affirm the dignity of all and recognise that people are able to help themselves. The improvement of education and vocational skills are high priorities for ACC World Relief. Our policy is to provide assistance for the relief of poverty and suffering regardless of age, gender, race, ethnic background, religion, political beliefs or marital status.
involve community cooperation
– projects should involve the community in all stages of decision making and participation, and be inclusive of people in order to develop indigenous partnerships and achieve common objectives.
